An affordable, accurate radar unit like the SpeedTrac X is hard to find for this price. The main purpose for the SpeedTrac X is to be able to have an affordable tool for improvement in YOUR sport. As long as you find a set-up that you like, and works for you, then if you set-up the same way each time, you will be able to bench mark your progress, and improvement. If you can use the unit to improve your game, you win.
I use the unit for clocking the speed of "slap shots", and skating speed, in roller hockey, and the bottom line is it works very well. Most of the kids I coach can improve their "Slap Shot" speed by 5 MPH in only the first lesson!

One drawback with the SpeedTrac X unit becomes apparent if you use the SpeedTrac X, outdoors on a sunny day: The glare washes out the display. A few clouds, placing the unit in the shade, or placing the unit inside a cardboard box restores readability.
